Here’s how to use now playing on Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Google Pixel’s now playing feature is helpful to identify song names and artist names playing nearby you. You can add a search button on the lock screen, which is beneficial for automatically recognizing the songs your device doesn’t recognize. Also, view and remove the playing history on your Google Pixel devices.
What is the Pixel Now Playing Shortcut?
Pixel now playing shortcut icon appears on the lock screen, which is helpful to identify songs playing nearby devices quickly.

How to Use Now Playing on Your Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro
Make sure to activate now playing on Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 device to use it:
Go to Settings and tap the Display on your Pixel phone.
Touch the Lock screen in the lock display section.
Scroll down and tap Now playing.
Toggle on the Identify songs playing nearby toggle.
You can see the below given three now playing settings.
- Notifications: Show the notifications on your lock screen about the song’s name and artist.
- Show search button on lock screen: Identify songs playing nearby that aren’t recognized by your device.
- Now playing history: You can show the name and artist of the song list here.
Play the music near your Pixel device, and you can see your device automatically display the artist and song’s name on the lock screen.
Alternative Way: Settings > Sound & vibration > Now Playing.
How to View and Delete Now Playing History on Google Pixel
To view now playing history, go to Settings > Display > Lock screen > Now playing > Now playing history.
Individual Delete Song from History: Settings > Display > Lock screen > Now playing > Now playing history > Long-press the song you want to delete > Trash icon at top right > Remove.
Remove All Now Playing History: Settings > Display > Lock screen > Now playing > Now playing history > Three vertical dots at the upper right corner > Remove all > Remove.
How to Turn Off Now Playing on Google Pixel: Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro
Settings > Display > Lock screen > Now playing >Toggle off the Identify songs playing nearby button.
Settings > Sound & vibration > Now Playing > Toggle off the Identify songs playing nearby button.
