Here’s how to enable or disable dark mode on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. To use dark mode or dark theme on your Google Pixel, you need to enable and set a scheduled dark theme on your Google Pixel 8 and other Pixel devices. To automatically activate dark mode on your Pixel, choose a schedule at a custom time, sunset to sunrise, or at bedtime.
What is Dark Mode (Dark Theme) on Google Pixel?
The dark mode uses a black background on your device that reduces the blue lights so you can quickly look at your screen, reduce eye strain, and increase the battery life on your phone.

How to Enable or Disable Dark Mode on Your Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro
To turn dark mode on/off quickly, swipe down the notification panel & tap the Dark theme to turn it on/off.
How to Enable Dark Mode on the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro using Display Settings
Swipe up from the bottom to access your Pixel’s app drawer, and tap Settings app.
Scroll and tap Display.
Toggle Dark Theme on/off in the appearance section.
Tap Dark theme to view dark mode settings on your Pixel.
Tap Schedule and see the below options.
- None: If you don’t want to set a schedule.
- Turns on at the custom time: Set the start and end time to activate the dark theme on your Pixel device automatically.
- Turns on from sunset to sunrise: Make sure to enable the location to use the sunset to sunrise for turn on dark theme.
- Turns on at bedtime: Ensure the Bedtime routine is set on your Google Pixel devices.
Choose a schedule you want to enable a dark theme on your Pixel automatically.
How to Disable Dark Theme on Google Pixel
Pull down the notification panel at the top & tap Dark theme to turn it off, or Go to Settings > Display > Toggle off Dark theme.
How to Enable Color Inversion on Your Google Pixel: Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro
Note: It’s better to use a dark theme instead of color inversion to display only a dark background on your Google Pixel devices.
Google Pixel’s color inversion feature helps turn light screens dark and turn dark screens light. It will change the colors in images, media, and work on all apps.
To use color inversion, go to Settings > Accessibility > Color and motion in the display section > Color inversion > Toggle on Use color inversion.
Using the notification panel, you can also add color inversion in the quick settings tiles to turn it on/off.
