Here’s how to use live caption on Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 7 Pro (Running Android 14). When you enable live caption on Google Pixel 8 and other devices, you can see speech captions on your phone’s screen. Set the preferred language will automatically translate the caption to the language you set on the Google Pixel devices. Also, add multiple languages to the caption languages list.

You can use Google Pixel’s live caption feature in your phone calls also. Use the volume button to turn live caption on or off in your Pixel devices. Let’s see how to turn on live caption on Google Pixel phones.

How to Use Live Caption on Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro

Ensure to turn on the live captions in your Google Pixel devices:

Open your Google Pixel’s app drawer and tap Settings app.

Scroll and tap Sound & vibration.

Find the Live caption and tap it.

Toggle on Use Live Caption.

Captions appear when speech is detected in your Pixel devices. 

Tap Languages & translation. You can see the caption languages list here. 

Tap on Add a Language and download the language (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish) from the list you want to add. 

Tap Translate captions to in the preferred language section. 

Choose a language. Your Pixel device shows captions for the preferred language you set.

Alternative Way: Settings > Accessibility > Live Caption > Toggle On Use Live Caption.

How to Turn Live Caption On/Off using Volume Button on Google Pixel

To use the volume button to enable or disable live caption on your Pixel, go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Live caption > Toggle on Live caption in volume control.

Press the volume up or down button & tap the Live caption button to turn it on/off.

Turn On Live Captions in Pixel 8 Pro using Quick Settings Tile

Swipe down twice from the top of the screen and swipe the right side until you see the Live Caption in quick settings tiles. Tap on Live caption to turn it on or off.

If you can’t see the Live caption in quick tiles, swipe down the notification panel twice and tap the Pencil (Edit) icon to view all available tiles. Find the Live captions, drag them to the top tiles, and go back. Now, easily enable live caption using quick settings tiles in your Google Pixel devices.

How to Enable Live Captions for Phone Calls in Google Pixel: Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro

To enable caption calls on your Pixel phones, go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Live caption > Caption calls > Choose Aske every time, Always, or Off.

You can turn on or off the automatically typed responses during calls using Google speech services on your Pixel devices. Also, choose a voice for typed responses. When you type and send a response during a call, your message will be read aloud in select sound.

  • Press the volume up or down button & touch the Live Caption icon to turn it off.
  • Swipe down twice from the top to access the notification panel & tap the Live caption in the quick settings tiles to turn it off.
  • Settings > Sound & vibration > Live Caption > Toggle Off Use Live Caption.
  • Settings > Accessibility > Live Caption > Toggle Off Use Live Caption.
