Enable Adaptive Brightness
It will optimize the brightness level for available light. Also, manually adjust the brightness if you want.
Settings > Display > Toggle on Adaptive brightness
Minimize Screen Sleep Time
Set sleep time 15 seconds or 30 seconds helpful to extend battery life in OnePlus 6 Oreo 8.1. After set sleep time, automatically turn off-screen display when reach.

Remove live wallpaper if set and use dark wallpaper
