Recently updated WhatsApp app added a new notification channel feature in android 8.1 and 8.0 Oreo. Here’s a complete guide to using the WhatsApp notification channel on Android 8 Oreo devices. Now it’s easy to disable WhatsApp notification from the home screen or change group notification importance level for messages in your android device. How to Use WhatsApp Notification Channel on Android Oreo 8.1 & 8.0
WhatsApp Beta gets notification channel support on android Oreo 8.1 and 8.0 devices. You can see the WhatsApp notification category in your Android Oreo using below given settings.
Step 1: Open app drawer & tap on Settings.
Step 2: Tap on Apps & notifications.
Step 3: Tap on WhatsApp under Recently opened apps.
If you can’t see WhatsApp app in recently opened apps, tap on See All apps (Show above screenshot). And find the WhatsApp app and open it in your device.
Step 4: Tap on App notifications.
Here you’ll see chats and other sections.
By default enable all WhatsApp notification categories in your android Oreo devices.

In the WhatsApp chat section, you can disable WhatsApp Group notifications and pop up on the screen. Also, change WhatsApp message notifications settings. To see the WhatsApp group notifications category, tap on it.
In the WhatsApp Group notification category, you can set importance level, notification sound, and vibrate settings. Also, advanced settings for show/hide lock screen notification content on WhatsApp, Notification dots, and override Do not Disturb.
Other:
This section includes WhatsApp chat history backup, critical app alert, WhatsApp media playback, silent notification WhatsApp, and more. Just tap on the option, you want to see the notification category in your devices.
