How to Set Background Process Limit on Android

Here’s how to change or set background process limit on Android phone. By default, limit background processes set as standard limit on your Android devices. You can choose limit from Standard limit/No background processes/At most 1 process/At most 2 processes/At most 3 processes/At most 4 processes. This change in the limit background process affects your device performance including battery performance, improve gaming performance, third party apps, and other running background activity stop.

It’s quiet easy to change limit background process on Android 16/Android 15 device using developer mode options. Before set background process limit, you must activate developer mode on your Android phone using this article.

How to Set Background Process Limit Android 16/Android 15

Make sure to enable developer mode in your latest Android devices. Follow below settings to activate it.

Go to Settings >About phone > Find the Build number and tap on it 7 times until see “You are now a developer” message on the screen.

Now Go to Settings > System > Developer options.

Tap the Search bar icon at the top right and enter Background process limit to quickly find it.

Tap the Background process limit in the apps section.

How to Set Background Process Limit on Android 16 Device

Choose a Background process limit from Standard limit/No background processes/At most 1 process/At most 2 processes/At most 3 processes/At most 4 processes.

For Older Version 7.1 & 6.0:

Step 1: Open “Settings” app on your android smartphone

Step 2: Scroll down until end of the page, tap on “Developer options

If in your android device not enable developer mode, you can enable developer options on android using this.

By default disable developer mode.

Step 3: Turn on developer options on your device

Step 4: Tap on “OK” to enable developer mode

Step 5: Scroll down until see applications section, tap on “Limit background processes

By default set “standard limit” as limit background processes on your android marshmallow and nougat (android 7.0) device.

  1. I it to 4 at most for background process limit. Will this cause any problems?

  2. I set mine to ‘At most 1 process’. The problem is it’s defaulting back to ‘Standard limit’. How do I make my settings permanent? LG Stylo 2 V.
